Privacy Policy

What we collect

Your account. When you sign in with email, Google, or Apple we receive your email address, a display name, and a profile photo if your provider supplies one. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only ever see Apple’s relay address.

What you save. The places in your diary, their status (visited, want to try, gem), your notes, ratings, visit dates, the photos you attach, and the collections and routes you build.

Your taste profile. The tags, cuisines, dietary needs and price range you choose during onboarding, and the signals we derive from what you save and swipe.

Location, only if you allow it. A coarse location is used to suggest your city and to sort places by walking distance. You can refuse it and the app still works; you can withdraw it at any time in your device settings.

Usage analytics. Screen views, taps, and feature usage, tied to your account identifier. Analytics events never carry your prose: your notes, your feedback text and your Taste AI messages are recorded only as a character count.

What stays on your device

When you scan a bill or share a screenshot, the image is read on your phone using Apple’s on-device text recognition. The photograph is never uploaded to us or to anyone else — only the text you confirm becomes part of your diary. A bill can carry the last four digits of a card, and saving you thirty seconds of typing is not worth sending that anywhere.

Photos you deliberately attach to a diary entry are different: those are uploaded and stored, because their whole purpose is to be part of the entry.

Who else processes your data

Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Messaging) hosts the service and stores your account and diary.

Google Analytics for Firebase receives the usage events described above.

Google Places receives the text you type when searching for a place, so we can find it and show its details and photos.

Google Vertex AI (Gemini) receives the message you send to Taste AI, along with your taste tags and the city you are looking at, in order to answer. It is not used to train a public model.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

What other people can see

Your diary is private by default. A collection or route becomes visible to others only when you deliberately share it, and only to people holding that link. Your display name and photo appear on anything you share and on the leaderboard if you take part.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data for as long as your account exists.

You can delete your account yourself, in the app: Profile, then Delete account. It takes effect when you confirm it rather than after a wait, and it removes your profile, diary entries, collections, uploaded photos and taste profile. It cannot be undone. You may be asked to sign in again first, which is there so nobody else can do it from an unlocked phone.

If you would rather we did it, or you can no longer sign in, write to support@tastelines.app. We action those requests within 30 days. Ask in the same message if you would like a copy of your data first.

Children

Tastelines is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
